Hot insulation is the practice of covering hot surfaces — pipes, vessels, boilers and ducts — with a low-conductivity material to stop heat from escaping. In process industries, every uninsulated metre of steam or hot fluid piping is wasted energy, and that translates directly into higher fuel and electricity bills.
Why hot insulation matters

Materials used for hot insulation
The most common hot insulation material is Rockwool (mineral wool), made from spun volcanic rock. It handles temperatures up to 750°C and is non-combustible. Glass wool is used for lower temperatures (up to 250°C) where flexibility is needed. Ceramic fibre and calcium silicate are chosen for very high temperatures in furnaces and kilns.
Cladding — the protective layer
Hot insulation is always covered with a weatherproof cladding — usually aluminium sheet, stainless steel, or GI — to protect the insulation from moisture, mechanical damage and corrosion. In outdoor installations, cladding quality is as important as the insulation itself. Aluminium is the standard choice; SS is used where high corrosion resistance is needed.
